Family Navigation: Season 3: Summer | Season 5: Winter

We are back with the random legacy family and at the end of this update, we will have an heir poll to see who will carry on to the next generation and what rolls we will be following! I’m super excited to move to the next gen, and actually not (I hope) needing to travel to every festival. It’s been fun, but I’m ready for new goals. Last update Maria was born and grew into a toddler and then child, Winston grew into a teen, and the family continued to travel to all the festivals. Let’s dig into this new season!

When we join the family they are all in various areas in and outside the house. All are sent back to bed until a more reasonable hour of the morning.

Once everyone is up again we prepare to start another week of a lot of traveling to festivals. Carolyn starts the day dancing, and Maria is watching some TV. Tobias is checking for any gigs that he might be able to easily complete.

Our first festival of the round is the youth festival. We send the whole family, as required, but really only Maria participates. She chats with Yamachan a bit, and gets herself a paper Kabuto that she wears for the rest of their time.

While they are at Mt. Komorebi the guys try their hand at some of the various activities. Tobias is still working his way toward being able to complete the climbing excursion, but I don’t know if he’ll get there or not. Meanwhile, Winston goes ahead and starts practicing his climbing as well.

Back at home Maria and Winston do their homework together, and Maria is going through a loud phase. Her parents could do without the super loud music, but she is a good kid overall so it’s not that problematic.

Winston, being the mean sim he is decides to prank the whiteboard at school. I believe he didn’t get caught this time, although Girasol Petal is back there but appears to not be paying any attention to her surroundings.

We have added a new gym into Newcrest which has multiple climbing walls, and Tobias works out on them to try and gain his rock climbing skill. I kept thinking, like fitness, they would need an energetic mood, but as I learned, you actually want a focused mood, which could have helped with building this skill.

A party is thrown at the house and for our socially awkward Wintson it’s all just too much. He ends up taking a nap on the couch while the rest of the teens who are visiting hang out around him. This party was, I believe, to help with Carolyn’s aspiration.

The next day is GeekCon, which happens while the kids are at school, so we start sending Tobias and Carolyn, who enjoy games together, and we bring the kids as soon as school is done. Winston, you can tell, is thrilled to be at another social event.

The kids at least get along pretty well most of the time. Winston may be mean but he seems to mostly save that for people other than his sister. They end up getting a jokesters dynamic, which works for me.

Any free time we have right now we are devoting to Tobias’ climbing skill. I have yet to ever complete a mountain excursion and I doubt I will this time, but I want to give it my best shot. We do create a rock climbing club to try and get ourselves a group of people to eventually go on the excursion with.

The family threw a costume party for around Spooky Day for fun and managed to get a gold out of the deal. Since Carolyn has the Party Animal aspiration she needs to throw a lot of parties, and we haven’t been doing much on that front.

Carolyn isn’t the only one working hard on their aspiration, Tobias is spending all his free time at Mt, Komorebei working on his aspiration too. He is getting pretty good on the snowboard, and can usually complete some more complex runs now.

Maria comes home with an A in school. Way to go Maria. She is really doing pretty good, although I don’t think she’s going to complete her aspiration. I really struggle with kids making friends, especially with adults.

It’s football day at the high school and since this is TECHNICALLY a “festival” we head out. While there Winston actually talks to this girl from school while doing his homework. I think it actually goes decently well and we may have to remember they have a bit of a relationship with each other.

Back at home Tobias and Carolyn enjoy a quiet evening by the fire reading together. They don’t have too many quiet nights at home, so this is a nice bonus for them this season.

Both Carolyn and Tobias have made self-discoveries. Carolyn thinks she’s a bit of a perfectionist, and I think that suits her pretty well. Tobias, on the other hand, is feeling like a crafter suddenly. This makes a little less sense, especially since we have nothing for him to craft with, but why not? He does enjoy writing so maybe he wants to expand his artistic endeavors.

The next morning Winston and Tobias end up with a difficult dynamic. This actually makes a lot of sense to me. I am going to say this is likely due to Tobias telling Winston to get ready for all the festivals, and Winston REALLY doesn’t want to go.

There isn’t a whole lot but festivals that happen the next two days. We start with the snow festival, one of the cottage living festivals, the romance festival, and the next day a new youth festival and flea market. The family is tired and ready to go home after all the running around for two days.

Once they get home, and everyone pretty much takes a nap, Maria decides to get up and grab a book to read from the bookcase. She actually grabs one of her dad’s books, which I think is actually totally adorable. I am not sure why Maria is reading a non-fiction book about imaginary numbers, but more power to her, she is after all a genius.

Carolyn goes and starts working on dinner, and while making a bowl of chili (it looks like) she manages to max out her cooking skill! Way to go Carolyn.

Very early the next morning Tobias and the climbing group go try out the large walls that they will need to climb for the excursion. Tobias is behind the rest of his group because he cannot even fathom attempting the largest climb, so we have to work even harder, but at least he did well up to that point.

This family is throwing all kinds of “announcements” at me. Carolyn likes Physical Intimacy, which is very much a given with her in my opinion. She and Tobias occasionally struggle with relationship fears, so it makes sense for her, well both of them really, to like this.

The next day at school was pretty boring, but while Winston was trying to eat lunch who would sit down and start talking to him? Why it’s Daphne White from our Disney Princess challenge. She chats to him for a bit while he awkwardly eats his food and sort of listens.

Another day and it’s another party, but this time for a very good reason. Maria is going to be growing up into a teen today. Many playable and non-playable friends and neighbors are invited over. A cake is made and after blowing out her candles Maria heads outside (because the house is too crowded apparently) to spin into a teen.

Here is our Maria Grey after her makeover. As we usually do all outfits are “rolled” for and I just adjust some colors. Maria added Maker to her traits to go along with Genius and gets the Master Actor/Actress as an aspiration. Not much luck in her getting very far into that one, but that’s all right.

The next day at school Maria gets to pick out her locker and the two work out before class. At lunch, Maria, being the more sociable sibling, makes friends with some of the other students. It was a pretty boring day at school overall.

Back at home Maira does some things on the computer, and I had considered for half a minute to get her a part time job until I remembered we cannot make money outside of our rolled options, so that does not happen. I send Tobias and Winston out to the gym to work on their rock climbing skill. They are both doing all right, but it’s SO SLOW to raise.

Tobias gets the Active personality trait, which I had to remind myself was not what he had before, but makes a lot of sense for him to have. Meanwhile, Maria and Winston share some small talk and she really enjoys it, so now she likes it.

The next day is Harvestfest and we spend the morning with Tobias and Winston back at the gym. Back home the power is out due to the NAP and Winston gets himself shocked by the gnome. I haven’t had that happen in quite a while. It’s a pretty quiet Harvestfest until the evening when they are finally able to make dinner.

Holly decided to stop by and hang out for a bit. I believe she is becoming friends with Maria, but I am not completely sure. They are close in age so it would make a lot of sense. The rest of the evening is spent just hanging out with each other.

Then it is back to festivals, festivals, festivals. We start with the cheer festival, which the kids take pictures during for fun, and then the family did a routine together. It did not go well. They didn’t stay for the results because it’s time to go down to the spice festival where no one tried to participate in the challenge. Then it’s quickly over to the festival of lights at Mt Komorebi, and then finishing with a Henford festival of some kind. Such a busy time.

While everyone was out and about participating to various degrees at the festivals we discover a lot of things about the family. Carolyn and Tobias are close, which kind of feels like a no-brainer. Maria and her mother are Jokesters, and finally, Tobias decides he likes the outdoors.

4 AM on the second Sunday finally rolls around and finds the family asleep in their beds. It has been a pretty eventual, and yet uneventual round. They traveled a lot and did work on their respective aspirations, but there is so much to go to for our festival fun. However, it is actually time to determine who will be the new heir, as Winston is ready to grow up next season. So let’s check out the options.

Winston Grey:Maria Grey:
Mean
Socially Awkward
TBA
High Metabolism
Top-Notch Toddler
Genius
Maker
TBA
Muser
High Self-Esteem
Top-Notch Toddler

These are our two kids that are up for heir of next generation. I have listed their current traits and bonuses that they have so far. Both are likely to get at least one positive character value as well. The rolls for next generation came out as follows:

So this is a single with help that will need to have 3 kids. The heir will be a career hopper, which means they have to spend time in at least 3 before adults, and all 5 before elderhood. For our career hopper we got the following careers: Interior Decorator, Astronaut, Education, Social Media, Law. I have branches for each of these if we manage to get that far in any of them. Our helper will go into Civic Planning. Our generational goal this time is that we MUST live in a tiny home. With three kids this is going to be interesting. Finally, the misc fun should also be interesting. Regular Dinner means we have to eat out as a family once a week. I will take this over visiting every festival every week, but should be fun to work out.

So I am going to actually put a couple of polls together for this. First up, who is going to be the heir and career-jumping single parent of three? Secondly, who is going to be the helper (to a certain extent.) I really look forward to seeing who gets picked. Winston is very close to growing up, but Maria has a bit of time so depending on who gets picked we might start the next gen almost immediately!

All right that is where we leave this update. Happy voting and next up we will be visiting with the Krause family. I hope to see you over there soon!

  1. Oh my, Winston is quite the character hahahaha I love how interesting and difficult his traits are in comparison to his family, he must not be the easiest sim to play and get along with lol. But we love him of course, as much as we love sweet little genius Maria. I believe there’s no wrong choice as heir for this family!

I bet it’s gonna be a good rest for you to leave the Festival fun behind for a while lol thoose are quite a lot of events to attend to, you did great! I hope the rock climbing gets a little easier! at least you have the climbing wars to practice with? lol

    1. Somehow I totally missed your comment!! The rock climbing has been insane, and while I have highly enjoyed checking out all the festivals (or at least most of them) I will be happy to leave that behind for dinner once a week. I agree with you, there really is no BAD choice here, either kid would be fun!

  2. I love the possibilities for storytelling here, Winston seems like the kind of person who would get unpopular at work or outright fired for being mean and socially awkward, so I voted for him, but they would both be interesting.
